Vintage 2016 This vintage has been of high quality and of high yieldings too, due mainly to the Fertility of the flowering and grape setting period that was kept till the end of the ripeness process. Fertility that was resembled in bigger grapes and bunches. Luckily, the favourable weather during ripeness period (September and October), that are alway crucial, allowed the harvest to be of high quality, with absence of plagues and diseases. In general, the harvest period was within normal limits but was delayed 3 weeks compared to the previous vintage 2015, that was the earliest so far. Grape Variety: 100% Graciano. Coming from a vineyard located in Arnedo, Eastern Rioja, at an altitude of 600 m., in a mountain area with South East Orientation, on a low nutrient and shallow clayish-ferric soil with gravel substrate, restraining its productivity. LUZ DE LUNA RESERVA 2017
Vintage 2017 This vintage has been of marked Atlantic character due to slow and late ripeness. The health of the grapes was very good, despite the weather during the year was very complicated with numerous rains in spring, and several local hail just before the harvest time. The benevolent meteorology, during the harvest period, has allowed us to wait until the most optimal time to pick up the grapes and planning the harvest gradually. In general, this vintage has been more productive than the previous, it has been very similar to the year 2016. Very balanced in parameters, with wines with lower alcoholic graduations than in 2017, but more refreshing. We selected two hight altitud vineyard, one of Garnacha, around 600 m. of altitude, and other of Maturana Tinta, 650 m. altitude. They were harvested on 13 and 14th of October respectively. They are low productivity vineyards with marked Atlantic character due their altitudes and orientation (North-West) located in cold areas with clay-chalky soils. Grapes Varieties: Garnacha 90%, Maturana Tinta 10% Winemaking • Grapes were hand selected from our vineyards. • Short skin maceration at cold temperature. • Only the free run juice is slowly-fermented at temperature controlled in stainless steel tanks for 1 month. • Aged on its own lees for 3 month. Tasting Notes Clean and bright appearance. It presents a very attractive pale pink colour with blue hints. Straightforward, clean and intense aroma of citrus (skin of tangerine and grapefruit), strawberry and flowers like rose and orange blossom, and a well integrated backdrop of scrub. The palate is soft, balanced and very fresh. Friendly and sweet at the beginning. Unctuous and round. The excellent acidity provides it with a refreshing feeling. Perfumed aftertaste of citrus and white flowers. Subtle, persistent and with a slighly sour end. Analysis: Alcohol: 13.40% Total Acidity: 6.20 gr./l (Ac. Tartaric) Residual sugar: 1.5 gr/l. Recommended Temperature: 15-16ºC.
